The Morrison
You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run, tried to hide
Break on through to the other side.
Visionary, poet, rock & roll icon - Jim Morrison and his legacy are different things to different people. Best known as the frontman of one of the most influential bands of the 60s, The Doors, Morrison and his band are pillars of the musical and cultural revolution that characterize that decade and musical era.
Born in Florida to a Rear Admiral father, Morrison's early childhood was spent on the move from one Naval base to another, never settling anywhere for long enough to set down roots. Morrison was drawn to poetry and literature as a teen, embracing works both classical and contemporary, Nietzsche and Kerouac, Kafka and Ginsberg. Morrison even named The Doors after a line from a favorite poet of his, William Blake.
Those who knew him wouldn't have expected him to one day be the rock world's "Lizard King," a sex symbol with a piercing gaze whose posters remain a staple of dorm room walls to this day, but history knows better. Morrison moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA where he studied literature, theater, and filmmaking. Shortly after graduating, in the summer of 65, Morrison met his bandmates and began their meteoric journey through consciousness altering substances and the rapidly evolving rock & roll culture of the 1960s.
I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps 'Oh look at that!' Then í_í¬ whoosh, and I'm gone... and they'll never see anything like it ever again... and they won't be able to forget me í_í¬ ever.
